Through four games, the Broncos defense is last or near-last in every major statistical category. In Football Outsiders’ primary defensive metric DVOA, it’s the worst four-game start since 1981. The Orange Bowl will be a full-circle moment for Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden. It’s been superb, frustrating, maddenning, deadening, and everything in between. That’s not the best legacy for a season, but neither is it the worst. I was bored, because this team didn’t seem to have anywhere else to go. There are teams that are frustrating because they clearly have all the potential in the world but can’t put it together—this year’s basketball team is an excellent example. Then there are teams with such a hard cap on their upside that hoping for upsets is insane.

The nickel cornerback who can play with physicality along the line of scrimmage and enough athleticism in pass defense down the field is one of the most difficult players for general managers to find. Teams have feasted on the catch-and-run room — the Broncos are last in the league in net yards per pass attempt allowed at 8.9 and one of only two teams over eight yards per attempt in that category. In addition to his attention to detail and stress management skills, Caden brings many talents to the table as an upcoming industry leader. “I believe that coming into the industry later in life gives me a unique perspective and edge because I have no biases,” he said. “I didn’t grow up in this industry, but I’ve learned a lot about it through my education and internships. I believe this will give me a fresh set of eyes in agriculture.” Caden also has strong communication and public speaking skills, a desire to learn and grow, a positive attitude, and a passion for thinking, building ideas and innovating.

Notre Dame is fourth all-time on the NCAA wins leaderboard, and Penn State is eighth. The programs are all-time against each other, last playing a home-and-home in 2006 and ’07, both won by the home team. Penn State won in South Bend in 1982 on its way to a national championship, while Notre Dame won in ’88 on the way to its most recent national title. Opponents, especially Miami and Chicago, which rushed for 350 and 171 yards respectively, repeatedly pounded away at the Broncos’ nickel package in the run game. Bama is looking for a bit of revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoff last season in overtime.
